Who we are
ETx42 is a small community calendar of 42 dominoes games in East Texas, run by one person, not a company. Contact for anything on this page: contact@etx42.com.
What we collect
You can read the whole calendar without an account and without giving us anything.
If you create an account
- A username. This is public. It is what you sign in with.
- An email address. Never shown on the site. We use it to confirm the account is real, to let you reset a forgotten password, and, only if you tick the box, to send occasional news.
- A password. Stored only as a one-way hash. Nobody here can read it, including us, which is why a forgotten password is reset rather than looked up and sent to you.
- Your name and phone number, if you give them. Both optional. Neither is published.
- A profile picture, if you set one. This is public. It is resized to a 256 pixel square and re-saved on our server; any camera, location or other data in the original file is discarded in the process.
- The IP address you signed up from, and the time you were last here.
If you list a game
- Everything on the form. Nearly all of it is meant to be published, including the contact name, email or phone you put in the Who to ask box. That box is asking who a stranger should contact about the game, so put in whatever you are happy to see on a public page.
- The IP address the form was sent from, and which account sent it.
If you say you are coming to a game
- That you said so, and when. The number of people coming is shown publicly on the listing. Your name is shown to the person who listed that game and to whoever moderates the site, so the host knows how many tables to put out. It is not shown to other visitors.
- If you gave a phone number on your account, the host of a game you are going to can see it, for the same reason.
Whatever page you are on

One cookie. Named
etx42. It holds a session identifier and nothing else — no name, no email, no tracking number. It is what keeps you signed in and what stops a form being submitted twice. There is no way to use this site signed in without it. -
Which appearance you picked. If you switch between
the light and dark colours in the corner menu, that choice is kept
in your browser under
etx42-theme. It is not a cookie and it is never sent to us — it stays on the device you chose it on, so the site looks the way you left it next time. Clearing your browsing data removes it. - A record of accepted form submissions, by IP address. This is the rate limit that keeps automated junk off the calendar. Those records are deleted automatically once they are older than the limiting window — currently fifteen minutes.
- Ordinary web server logs kept by our host, which include IP addresses and the pages requested, in the way every web server does.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade anything about you.
- We run no analytics: no Google Analytics, no pixels, no session recording, no advertising trackers.
- We do not email you unless you asked for it or you are confirming or resetting your own account.
- We do not build a profile of what you look at.
Other people who see something
Four, and only four:
- Our web host stores the site and its database, and keeps the server logs described above.
- Google Fonts. The site loads two typefaces from Google's servers, which means your browser tells Google your IP address and which page requested the font. We would rather it did not; it is here because the typefaces are.
- OpenStreetMap, on the map page only. The map at /map draws itself from map tiles served by OpenStreetMap, so on that page — and only that page — your browser tells them your IP address and roughly which part of the world you are looking at. It is also where the map library comes from, via a public code host. Nothing is sent about you, and no other page loads any of it. Working out where each hall is happens on our own server when the listing is saved, so that part never involves your browser at all.
- Amazon. Some links on this site are Amazon Associates links, and we earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through them. If you follow one, Amazon knows you came from here and applies its own privacy policy and its own cookies from that point on. We are not told who bought what — only totals.
Beyond that we would only hand something over if the law actually required it.
How long we keep it
Accounts and listings are kept while the site runs, because a calendar that forgets last month's games is not much of a record. Rate limit records are deleted within the hour. Ask us to delete your account and we will.
One thing to know about deletion: we can remove your account, your picture, your email address and your RSVPs. Games you listed that have already happened stay on the calendar as a record of what went on, with your name taken off, unless you ask for those to go too.
Blocked accounts
An account that is blocked keeps its row rather than being deleted, so that the listings attached to it are not orphaned and the same address cannot immediately be used to start again. Ask and it will be deleted properly.
What you can ask for
A copy of what we hold about you, a correction, or deletion. Email contact@etx42.com from the address on your account and we will sort it out. There is no form and no process; it is one person reading email.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 13. If you believe a child has made one, tell us and it will be removed.
Security, honestly stated
Passwords are hashed, the site is served over HTTPS, email links expire and work once, and uploaded pictures are re-encoded rather than stored as sent. That is a reasonable standard of care for a small community site, and it is not a guarantee. Do not use a password here that you use anywhere that matters.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it. Carrying on using the site after that is taken as accepting the new version.
